The Area
The fact that many people visit this region for its tranquillity does not mean that there is nothing to do, quite the contrary! You can go hiking and cycling, swim in several places, visit nice towns, sights and flea markets, and you can even go shopping here! After an active day, you can enjoy the silence even more and in the evening the impressive starry sky.
Of course, you will find several brochures of places of interest in my villa. For a wider selection, I refer you to the Office de Tourisme Luzy.
Hiking from the chambres d'hôtes
Be sure to bring your walking shoes. From the villa you can make beautiful walks. After just a few minutes you will take the most beautiful pictures of views. There are also two routes from the village of Cuzy of 10 and 6.8 kilometres. The longest route runs fairly steeply uphill (and later downhill again), especially in the first part. The shorter route is slightly less hilly. Both routes I can easily explain to you.
Swimming at walking distance
If you want to end the morning sportily, you can go to the swimming pool near the apartment building (owned by other owners), 150 metres away. Guests of my chambres d'hôtes may use it in the morning. At other times of the day, please check how busy it is.
From (probably) 2021, you will be able to use the swimming pool of the small campsite to be built, downstairs on the property and therefore also a short walk away.
Bathing lake and swimming pool
There is also a swimming lake, Les Baudurettes, in Thil-sur-Arroux. This small lake without facilities is just under 20 minutes' drive away. The swimming pool in Luzy, on the Route d'Autun, can even be reached in less than 10 minutes.
Hiking and fitness trail in Luzy
In Luzy, you can take a short but pleasant two-kilometre walk along the little river Alène, which flows through the town. You can also take advantage of some still-new fitness equipment, which is set up there for free use. A map of the walk can be found to the left of the church. Walking down that path will also take you to the fitness trail.
Luzy
Five kilometres from Cuzy is the lively town of Luzy, with a population of 2,000. Thanks in part to its current, very active mayor, Luzy is pretty lively for a town of that size. It has two supermarkets (one with petrol station), several bakeries, several other shops, a small park, several eateries as well as a small cinema. There is a market every Friday morning and regular events (such as music evenings) are organised. The little river Alène flows right through Luzy. In the immediate vicinity, from the town, you can take lovely walks. Luzy has its own railway station.
Autun
Just over half an hour's drive from domaine Le Faulion is Autun, a slightly larger, old Roman city with 16,000 inhabitants. Autun has a decent range of shops and many places to eat. Furthermore, the cathedral and the two Roman theatres are definitely worth a visit.
Toulon-sur-Arroux
In fifteen minutes you drive to Toulon-sur-Arroux, a town slightly smaller than Luzy, but also nice to have seen. Several walking routes start from Toulon-sur-Arroux, of 5, 7, 10, 15 and 26 kilometres. While in town, be sure to check out the centuries-old Romanesque church (from the 11th/12th century), near the larger church.
Bibracte (Mont Beuvray)
A must-see in this region is Bibracte, on Mont Beuvray. Bibracte was an ancient Roman fortified town, which can be seen thanks to archaeological excavations. Probably 10,000 people once lived there. The route there (over half an hour) is already beautiful, through the winding roads with beautiful views. You can visit the museum (entrance €7.50 p.p.) and walk to the plateau with the excavations. There you will also find a viewpoint and an old chapel. Mont Beuvray, at 821 metres, is incidentally one of the highest mountains in the Morvan.
Palden Shangpa La Boulaye (the temple of the thousand Buddhas)
Near La Boulaye, a 15-minute drive away, you will find a Buddhist temple. You can join retreats there, you can meditate with it at two times daily, you can also just visit the temple, which includes some impressive statues, for €5.
Paris
Yes, you read it right: Paris. By car, although it is a 3.5-hour drive from Cuzy, there is a faster option. In just 45 minutes, you drive from Cuzy to Le Creusot TGV station. From there, the superfast TGV will take you to Paris in just over an hour! This can be done a few times a day. Once you arrive, from Gare de Lyon you are already close to Place de la Bastille, the Centre Georges Pompidou ánd the Louvre, for example! This makes Paris a fun, attractive day trip within short travelling distance and the TGV can be off your bucket list. Check available tickets online well in advance.

Restaurants in the area
This region has relatively many, mostly small restaurants. In high season, they have longer opening hours (and days) than out of season. Given the size of the restaurants, booking in advance is also recommended.
Some restaurants that I have eaten (well) at myself and have also referred guests to:
Aux Berges de Thil - Thil-sur-Arroux
Le Relais de Dettey - Dettey
Bar de l'Eglise – Luzy

Spa
In Saint-Honoré-les-Bains, about 30 km from Cuzy, you will find Les Thermes de Saint-Honoré-les-Bains. In Bourbon-Lancy, you will even find two spas: Celtô and Thermes de Bourbon-Lancy. Good to know: these are not saunas as we know them in the Netherlands. They are spas with sauna and swimming pool as well as the possibility of various treatments.
For more nude recreation, visit naturist campsite Domaine de la Gagère in Luzy. For €12.50 you can stay here for a day, use the two swimming pools and, from 17.00, the sauna.
A real sauna can be found in Meursault: La Ceuillete. Although this is a 1.15-hour drive, you can combine it nicely with a visit to beautiful Beaune, which is a few kilometres away and where you should definitely visit the Hospices de Beaune (with its beautiful roof). Here, you are also directly in the wine region for which Burgundy is so famous. Beaune is therefore an absolute must.
